JP Concerts: OddSong

>> ABOUT THE CONCERT
OddSong will present a program of bold, adventurous and colorful compositions, and the occasional arrangement of songs from unlikely sources Settings of poetry (a both sung and spoken), collective improvisation, chamber music ensemble passages, folk music, tango and the blues are all part of an OddSong performance. Compositions could include: Galeanthropology, which is based on galeanthropy, the belief that one is a cat. Outta Horn is a setting of a poem about the night John Coltrane, according to Trane’s percussionist, Rashid Ali, “ran outta horn,” and told in a film-noir/detective novel style. Also featured are new and old compositions and arrangements by Darrell Katz and Helen Sherrah-Davies. OddSong is a contemporary jazz chamber group, a sax quartet, with a singer, violin and marimba, and no bass or drums. Most of the lyrics, sung, and some occasions, spoken are by the late poet Paula Tatarunis, who won two MCC Artist Fellowships, and published, in a wide variety of publications, in a short time, over 200 poems.
